Art Therapy Approach to Trauma Recovery (E-Book)

This case study explores the effectiveness of an integrative art therapy approach in the treatment of complex trauma for a survivor of domestic violence, sexual abuse, and human trafficking. Through a six-month trauma recovery program, Natasha Nesic utilized a comprehensive framework incorporating art therapy, mindfulness, attachment theory, neuroscience, and traumatology to support emotional healing and post-traumatic growth. The study demonstrates how creative expression can facilitate self-regulation, reduce symptoms of complex PTSD, strengthen self-awareness, and promote the development of a coherent personal narrative. By integrating evidence-based trauma treatment principles with expressive arts interventions, this work highlights the transformative potential of art therapy in helping survivors process traumatic experiences, restore resilience, and improve overall quality of life.
